Let’s talk teaching.
My approach to teaching is firmly centered around communication. In class, I strive to create a sense of community rather than a “students vs. teacher” atmosphere. Interactive lectures and tutorials incorporate policy discussions and research insights without losing track of the important theoretical and empirical tools that I teach with great joy. Especially in my graduate classes, I regularly share updates - good and bad - on my own ongoing research and experiences as an early-career researcher to give students a taste of what life is really like in academia. I invite you to explore my teaching portfolio on this site and attend my next lecture!

In recent promotional video about the Master’s program, I was invited to share about our teaching style - have a look:
Student statements.
“Kathi made me lose my fear of numbers and stats. In her class, besides being very engaging, I always felt listened to and supported.“
“Kathi‘s way of teaching was always inspiring and delivered with passion.“
“If it hadn‘t been for Kathi, I am not sure I would be doing my PhD. Kathi has the ability to identify others’ strengths immediately, to motivate and to guide (teach) in a way that signals support while simultaneously fostering students’ independence and self-efficacy.”

For German data provider GESIS, I conceptualized and taught a video class on the OECD’s PIAAC data in applied economic research:
